Redcar Squash has grown up from within the Rugby Club at Redcar. The squash section dates back over 50 years being one of the first clubs in the county and evolved from the vision of several key people within the rugby section. Redcar now boasts over 100 members of all ages and abilities. The prime aim of the club is to provide facilities which warmly embrace the full range of player abilities and interests.
Whilst we have had players that have progressed into the professional ranks and have players who have represented England in their senior age group plus innumerable county junior champions, the club is set up to embrace all levels. Club nights are set up on Sunday nights 6:50 until whenever for all members and there is a special Ladies Night on Thursday 6-7:40. Junior coaching is on Saturday mornings, taking from virtually any age but certainly 5 year old up-over.
In order to get external verification that Redcar were progressing in the right direction, we worked to become one of the first clubs in the area to get bronze accreditation. Whilst in this category – which represents the largest number of clubs in England, Redcar were honoured to become England Squash’s Development Club of the Year. This prize was presented between the semi-finals of squash’s biggest tournament worldwide, the Open, by one of the world’s greatest players ever, Jahanger Kahn:
